Hey hey! SMF is the best open source, free forum system that exists. It is so much better than phpbb for security reasons, user interface, administration and more.

:D

First time I've ever heard of it, and by looking at the site it seems to be fairly new.

Can't say that I've seen any sites use it yet.

Umm its been around for years. I am a web developer and trust me when I say SMF is so much better in terms of performance, speed, etc.

Years = 4 (including beta version)?, it's a port of another product from perl to PHP.

I doubt very much that the effort that would be involved to convert the existing forums to the new one is worthwhile. If there were huge glaring problems with this forum, then yes, it would make sense to consider switching to something else.

And I still haven't seen boards using it, and I couldn't find any lists of sites that are using it on their site.

As for it being open source, the license doesn't seem to be any where near what's considered an open source license.

I've worked with SMF a bit and I think it blows the doors off phpBB. But like Bob said, converting this forum to that would likely be a difficult and time-consuming task.
